It is a general introduction to maritime law to allow the law school graduate to actually engage in the practice of law. It deals with not only the historical and theoretical basis of maritime law, but provides practical litigation experience and opinions with reference to ongoing actual cases in maritime law. The course follows the format of discussing jurisdiction of the courts, personal injury components of maintenance (compensation) & cure (medical entitlements), Jones Act seaman, longshoreman (those guys loading and unloading those big ships), wrongful death, collision, tugs & towage, pilotage. |
